Homeschool Journal Dot Net

Thanks, Laura!

Look what I found at Life’s Sweetest Blessings? She nominated me for this blog award!
This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships!
These blogs are exceedingly charming.
These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement.
Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated.
Please give more attention to these writers!
Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.

Thanks, Laura!
Here are my eight nominees:
Natalie (my daughter) at Homeschool Girl
Carrie at Chocolate, the Other White Meat
Lawanda at Lovin’ Life
Laura at Moomin Light
Gem at My So-Called Homeschool

100,000th Visitor Giveaway

Sometime on Sunday, Mommy Brain received its 100,000th visitor! I had been watching my stats, but missed the exact moment. That doesn’t make it any less exciting, though!
I started blogging in January of 2005. I originally started at LiveJournal, and that’s all I thought it was going to be: a journal. But sometime around then, I heard of blogging. I can’t remember for sure which blog was the very first one I read, but it was probably Andrea’s or Guilt-Free Homeschooling, since I was still a fairly new homeschooler looking for as much advice as I could get. I moved my blog to Blogger, where I learned a little bit about HTML. When Ron and Andrea announced Homeschool Journal, I was happy to be one of the first to hop on board, and imported my entire blog over here.
I recently started a paid blog, but Mommy Brain here at Homeschool […]

Political blogging

There’s something I’ve noticed as I’ve been reading blogs lately. And I’m not talking strictly about political blogs, but also about general bloggers who occasionally mention politics. Once a blogger has decided on a candidate - or if they are strictly a party-line voter - their blog posts reflect this in an unswerving way.
Let me explain: if a blogger has decided to vote for McCain, then Obama can’t do anything right and McCain can’t do anything wrong. If a blogger has decided to vote for Obama, then McCain can’t do anything right and Obama can’t do anything wrong.
Now, I know this is a broad generalization - and obviously all bloggers aren’t this extreme. But the ones I’ve read, other than Crunch Con, who seems to be an equal opportunity analyst, all seem to stick to their party. They regurgitate what other poli-bloggers with the same viewpoint are posting; they restate […]

If I’m Famous, Why am I Folding Laundry?

There should be witty, insightful words here, but I only have so much time to waste spend on the computer. Those hours were spent exploring corners, contemplating accessories, and arranging furniture at my new internet home. Your invitation for tea will arrive soon. I look forward to showing you around!
While I move cyber boxes and fold forsaken laundry, I’ll share my new celebrity status. As you can see, I got a make-over for the occasion and lost 63 1/2 pounds.

Welcome to Life Nurturing Education

I introduced some of my friends to blogs. This conversation is dedicated to them. I am honored that you read my words.

Some of you may never visit me in Texas, but I want to show you around my home on the internet. Please sit down, and relax the best you can between the occasional accidents and emergencies only Mommy can fix. I’ll make you some tea and ignore the chores for while. I hope you enjoy the visit.
What is a blog anyway?
Blog is short for web log. It is a kind of internet diary, but blogs are not limited to personal journals. There are blogs on all varieties of subjects; politics, photography, scrapbooking, cooking, or shopping. Life Nurturing Education focuses on homeschool and all that entails. My About page, located in the left sidebar, contains more information.
How do I leave comments?
One of my favorite parts of blogging is hearing […]

Happy New Year

What are you doing this New Year’s Eve 2007? I am sitting on the couch with my new laptop, watching the kids jump and sing and dance along with their High School Musical game on their new Playstation 2. They are happy, especially since their daddy told them they could stay up until midnight to welcome the New Year. Without asking their mommy. He’s the crazy one - I’ll probably head in to bed, and he’ll be up. And he’s still getting over the flu. He did, however, take a long nap in a quiet house this afternoon while the kids and I were visiting at Michelle’s.
I’m also listening to the song Revival from the CD Revival in Belfast by Robin Marks. We found a new church home this year. It has been nearly two years since we left our old church home. And yet, as soon as this song […]

Treasures

Penelope at The Cafe at the End of the Universe honored me with this award, and I’m passing it on. My choices for the “Your blog is a treasure” award are:
~ Crissy at Soliloquy. I was so glad to discover that Crissy was blogging again. She is a fellow bookaholic and likes to share what she’s reading and thinking. Her posts are thoughtful and heartfelt. Plus, she’s a fellow ‘Hawks fan. She even has an in - her hubby is the team photographer.
~ Jill at The Crib Chick. Jill is another gal who took some time off from blogging, and recently returned. She makes me laugh until I snort. ‘Nough said.
~ Sallie at A Gracious Home. I have enjoyed reading Sallie’s posts in the last year about becoming a mother for the first time. She is very honest about the ups and downs of motherhood, marriage, and faith. […]

My Comments Are On- Part 2

I have changed my theme yet again. Please bear with my fickleness. My plan was to leave everything alone until I learned to customize, but after trying off and all day to get my comments fixed, I couldn’t wait.
To prevent spam from filling my comment boxes there is a captcha that needs to be typed before a comment is saved. It was not showing on my previous theme for some undiscovered reason. I apologize if you tried to leave a comment and were sent to an error page. This is now resolved, so be sure to enter my first book giveaway.

Down but not Out

Life Nurturing Education will be unavailable part of the day on Thanksgiving. While my family eats turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin cheesecake our administrator will be crunching codes to update homeschooljournal. At least, codes are calorie free. Thank you, Andrea!
If you can’t find me after Thanksgiving, it’s because I wiped everything out fiddling with the new options and making a nice place for my BlogHer ads. (It is hard to wipe out your entire blog, right?)
Have a memorable Thanksgiving! May peace and love fill your homes and hearts as you reflect on your blessings.

Time to gross you out =P

Well, the teeth pulling didn’t go to bad. Huzza! But now I’m going to go into the sickening details. Lol. Or at least try. Anyway, when I go there I had already taken my pills, and I was tired and slightly grumpy, but I got there about 9: 50 ish and in about five minutes they called me in. Well, first off, the laughing gas was fucking awesome. I loved it. I tried to inhale as much as I could, lol. And then…came the novocain. My first thought was, ‘Oh shit. I didn’t know about this.’ and then when they gave me the shots, it only hurt a bit. And, I’m guessing it was just the gas, but I started laughing through the novocain. And then it happened again! More laughter! Even when they were pulling out the teeth. I wonder if they sell the nitro gas or whatever it […]

Deep breath

My thoughts of late have gone something like this:
Articles due - need to finish Gryffindor scarves - why doesn’t Wal-mart have crowns or wands? - grocery list: can’t forget yarn to finish scarves and ingredients for dessert to bring to Tae Kwon Do party - more articles due - need to write review - haven’t written a personal blog post in ages - miss my books - ah, girls’ night - need to plan party for Mom and Dad’s 40th anniversary - oh my gosh, Josiah lost a tooth - oh yeah, Josiah’s birthday is coming up - which Harvest Party are we going to? - more articles due - forgot to call that lady about that thing - need to cancel satellite - stacks of papers to correct and file - etc. - etc. - etc.
Is it any wonder that this frantic feeling is building up and I just […]

Oh Snap.

Oh boy…here we go. Today is the fateful day -Because it got cancelled last week- Today, I get my teeth pulled. It’s just not right that I wasn’t aloud to eat. Although I did have some cereal last night. =P But other than that, I was only aloud to have some toast and some tea. My poor belly. I’m so hungry. *Dry sob* And then I had to take some pills to mellow me out and then when I get there I’m going to have to take some gas…I think to do something or other. Well, I should probably go and get ready. *Salutes*

Ah, Erin…

This is my best friend, Erin. She’s 13 years old and is also home schooled. I’ve known her almost a year now. We’ve had multiple sleep overs and gotten into all sorts of stuff. Our mom’s are so happy we found each other.  And Erin, if you’re reading this, I LOVE YOUUU!! Lol.

Wow…

I now have a new favorite movie. It is “Pride & Prejudice” simply wonderful movie. Now I want to read the book. Well, anyways, besides that, it seems fate has frowned upon me once again. I won’t be getting my teeth pulled tomorrow. That’s for next week. Ergh. I was really just hoping to get it over with. But alas, it seems like that won’t be happening. Ergh. Again. Oh, and it seems I’ve gotten poison oak on my stomach. How the hell that happened, I have no clue. But, it may just be a rash. Why must God hate me so?

A Nice Blog Award

Mandi gave me the coveted, flowery shoe award. She thinks I’m really nice. My kids might not agree with her early in the morning.
As a nerd teacher, I investigated the origins of this award. It turns out that anyone can create a badge. Now, why didn’t I think of that? Probably because Adobe Photoshop is still on my learn-to-use list. Once I master it, I’ll let you know what I design. Are you patient? It might take a year or two or three. Anyway, these words accompanied the first slipper:
This award will be awarded to those that are just nice people, good blog friends and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! Those that care about others that are there to lend support or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!

How thoughtful and sweet! I am proud to be part of such a wonderful group.
Wearing the […]
