Turkey Day…

Ahh just some pictures of my little Froggie (hence dubbed “Doozer”) and his brother, Zookey (as in Godzilla’s son, godzookey)…and of course, the Mad Dad, the Princess Brat and the Princess Brat in Training.

“AHH It’s Crazy Auntie Baloney!!!”

My handsome Little Man (well, he isn’t MINE, but he’s my nephew, so he’s mine..yeah that…)

“Mom, hurry and take the picture, his head hurts”

This Atheist IS thankful

Just not to your God.  “A Few Religious Thoughts to Ponder” … Hat-Tip to Pharyngula for the link. Let’s re-write his column, shall we?
Thanksgiving must be a terrible time for the religious right. They have no time to thank those that mean the most to them.
They gather with family and friends to express gratitude by saying: “Praise God from whom all blessings flow”, after spending days, down to the final hour, preparing a feast of food that rivals any kingly table across the world, for which no one in their family will appreciate. The family squabbles ensue, mainly about what way is the best way to “thank God”.
An atheist, on the other hand, actually spends their time with the family they don’t see often. Sure, they cook, but they don’t fret about making the turkey just so, or the table setting just proper. We actually thank the most important things […]

Barnum and Ringling Museum

Today, we went to a very well done, most excellent play at the Asolo Theatre in Sarasota: Barnum: Life and time of PT Barnum. This play was just the absolute best musical I have seen in a small time theatre. Totally Awesome. From there, we went to the Ringling Museum of Art and Circus–it was just across the street.
(you have to forgive the blurriness or darkness of the photos, they did not allow flash at all)
Here are your photos of the day:
The Asolo Theatre:

My young charges:

The “Puss in Boots” Dress

The Emette Kelly Sr. Exhibit

The “Human Cannonball” car

If there is one movie you should check out it’s “The Greatest Show on Earth”, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lou Jacbos (cameo). This model train set is the actual model train they used to film the train crash/explosion in the movie:

Two of the stars of the play were General Tom Thumb and […]

Some homeschoolers really are demented

Particularly those that feel they need to organize a pathetic boycott of ABC because of what Mrs. Behar said about us.
Oh, wah!
It’s almost like that equally pathetic boycott of Subway because they chose not to include homeschoolers in a contest where the grand prize was a LOT of playground equipment for your school!
Honestly, you whiny ninnies are only proving Mrs. Behar’s point–you are a bunch of dimwitted, demented, and just plain dumb, homeschoolers to think that Mrs. Behar or ABC actually gives a shit about your opinion.
As such, I am personally requesting that all those homeschoolers who actually have a brain and use it properly, to contact ABC yourself and tell them that these dimwitted fools do not speak for all homeschoolers and even though we find Mrs. Behar as idiotic as they are–”sticks and stones” my friend, sticks and stones.
Sheesh, I’m taking a cue from Daryl and am going […]

My head just exploded..

Hat Tip to Herp&es and Daryl, COD, and Doc for this. Spunky is at it again. I actually stopped reading her during the boycott of those stupid, “pick me pick me” awards. But I just had to go read this. It seems as though Spunky is afraid of something President-elect Obama wants to do:
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct […]

The thing is …

I’m not as artsy fartsy as Kiddo is. I wish *I* was - REALLY wish I was - but I’m not. I think it would help a lot if I was as creative as she is because then maybe I would “get it” a little more. At the same time, though, I’m trying hard to never squash her creative side and I really, really hope if we foster this love and talent then she’ll grown up to be just as artsy as she is now.
Or I hope

My baby growed up.. part ACK!!

End of day, 1st day and she’s already riding one of the horses like she owns it. She’s got a favorite: Skipper. He’s the blue-eyed horse.
“Oh Hai again”

“You can’t prove a thing”

“Duuuuuuude”

“Snarfing the food I am”

“Alert! Crazy Camera Lady Again”

“I lurves her”

“They call me Pig, Big Pig. You can call me Cowboy”

Here  she is getting on her sweety–Skipper.

This is Daniel and Delight, Skipper’s BFF’s.

Off into the sunset she goes.

Now she’s removing Skipper’s bridle and saddle

And back into his pen.

This is Skipper.

I got me a new camera from Santa. Took this shot of a dragonfly that landed on my neighbor’s hand. Sweet, huh?

“I *said* whatever”

It’s the end of an era, age, uhhh..something

My baby, the 16 year old, Ms. Princess Brat herself, is now a member of society via a job.
On a ranch.
Ok, so she isn’t actually getting a paycheck…yet. But she is a full volunteer at our stables, saddling, shoveling, and all the grimy, mucky, smelly, work that comes with it. And she’s fine not making a paycheck(yet). Actually, the volunteers *can* make money as they have trails riders can take either with or without a guide. She’s training to guide, so she’ll get paid directly from the riders for guiding them.
Anyway, the pictures that follow are her fellow cow-workers (and goat, pig, donkey, horse, Ostrich, Alpaca, Llama, Chicken, Sheep, and I think I got them all):
First thing this morning(sniff…….)

The welcoming committee:
“Sound the alarm! Intruder! yeah, that’s right bud, you just keep walking”

“Must hurry!! Can’t be late! New person!”

“Dude we’ve so, like, got a live one on our ranch. […]

I was a naughty girl last night…

But for a good cause. See, Mad Dad works for Bayshore High school. He’s also “The Voice” when announcing/calling the football games. And normally, we go and have fun. But last night I was a bad girl. I was bad because MY high school was playing his. Boca Ceiga also happens to be the same high school my nephew, Chris, attends. He’s in the Marching Band, 2nd Bass Drum Line. So while I traipse around the field wearing my Bayshore Bruins sweatshirt, me, my mom and dad, his mom and dad, my daughters, and his sisters, were sitting on the Bayshore side, cheering Bogie on!!
Ahh but it was worth it. I got to see a handsome young man perform and I enjoyed every minute of it. He rocked!!

The next images are all Drum Line -vs- Drum Line, of course, I only got the important part (the home […]

In 1984….

I was in the 5th grade. Ronald Reagan was running for his second term and my school held a mock election. This was also the year that Jesse Jackson decided to run for the office of President.
I resided in Valdosta, Georgia.
Jesse Jackson won our mock election.
I understand now, the significance of this. I understand now, Mr. Jackson’s tears during the acceptance speech last night. However, I am in just complete jaw dropping awe, at the ignorance being shown by some who insist that racial divides no longer exist. I am in awe that these people claim to have been raised in households where they were taught that “people are people, no matter the color”, yet they stand there and proudly proclaim that they voted for a man because he was white (like them). To be fair, there are some stating that they voted for McCain not because he was white, […]

Welcome, Mr. President!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!!!!

You have given my children hope that this Nation can finally rise above and beyond the race and color lines that our ancestors put before us. You will change the face of this Nation and teach the people of this country a lesson. You will do good. A good that we need.
My daughter will be able to vote in the next election, having just turned 20 then, and she has already stated “I WILL BE voting for him”. Please, Mr. President, do not disappoint her!
To all those that are boo-hooing this moment and calling it “fearing for our country”, please explain to me why? Because he’s half black? Because of his name? Because you were a nit-wit who actually believed the lies about him? Next time, get your head out of the sand and do some actual research; you might learn something.
To the poll workers […]

Career Day for Homeschoolers

So I was the organizer of this thing and my only complaint is that not enough homeschoolers showed up. I had some really cool speakers and once you see the pictures, you’ll see we also had fun.
A few nights before, we decided that we would make something as an incentive for everyone to show up–Home made slime. We gave these out to the kids who visited all of our guests. You will also noticed that the Mad Dad makes an appearance with his Mentos/Coke experiment AND that the wonderfully nice Fire Fighters decided to give my car a bath (the white minivan).

The Mad Dad explaining why the Mentos/Coke experiment works:

And now he demonstrates it:

So far so good!

Big things have happened this week.
1. The realization that my kid learns differently than I thought, and that she’s a visual-spatial learner. This has prompted me to research right-brained learning and come up with ideas on how to best “teach” my kid.
2. We’ve tossed reading and writing out the window. Kind of. For the past year we’ve been trying to get Kiddo to read phonetically and while she knows what all the letters say, she just couldn’t put them together and her reading has stalled. Now knowing that she most likely would learn better by sight reading, that’s the route we’re taking. We now have a sight word door and each week she’ll have a new group of five words. So far it’s working WONDERFULLY. And writing? Unless she’s doing it on her own terms, she hates it. She already knows […]

**cues music** This is Halloween…

My annual rant, I suppose. While perusing a certain place, the annual “Does your family “celebrate” Halloween?” question came up. Of course, the righteous indignation and tripping over each others egotistical “Oh No we don’t” postings are numerous. And each of these are followed by “But we DO get in on the sales–candy AND costumes”.
Here’s the rant:
You are still celebrating Halloween. You are still sending a message to Corporate Consumer companies that they can continue to make these “abhorrent”   abominations called costumes, that they can continue to produce over-priced, barely bite sized pieces of candy; as well as making those “frightening” decorations that cascade across every store front; by purchasing these things. It doesn’t matter when you purchase them, that you still do means you are still partaking of the very thing you abhor.
Candy that you buy after halloween, is still Halloween candy because the packaging labels it as […]

Fantasy of Flight…**pic intensive**

If you ever get a chance to make it to Polk City, Florida, you MUST stop by a place called “Fantasy of Flight”. We had a homeschool field trip there today and I have to say–**everyone** had a wonderful time! I honestly did not think I’d enjoy it, let alone my girls (knew Jacob would), but we all had a wonderful time. Our tour guide was most excellent and everything was spot on and very interactive.
Let’s start:

We begin by entering the building and going immediately into the fuselage of a DC-10, where, as you can see, we are prepped for “jumping”:

We are immediately “transported” back in time to Paris, France, circa 1850’s; and a demonstration of Hot Air Ballooning:

And via our transport, we are immediately dropped into World War 1:

And after a long, arduous battle, we are shifted into World War II:

Once our mission was complete, we were taken to […]

It appears my ears are ringing….

Me thinks I’m going to have some new visitors soon, no thanks to “that board” and some people asking where I am. It also appears that some (who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are) have the story totally wrong as it refers to my “removal” from said board.
You see it is simple: I did NOT ASK to be banned. No, what I said was “Ban me. Prove my point.” Wait, in fact, here’s the direct quote:
Me calling SWB out:
This just proves that your rep system sucks big time. I refuse to edit a relevant post just because you don’t like someone calling you on the carpet about your pathetic system. This is what they are doing now, and be damned if you are a newb there, your post will disappear (prompting more questions to be asked, duh), if you even consider mentioning negative rep. I once had […]

Dignity Denied….

An article by Dan Savage, questioning the validity of the argument that one should let God choose the hour of death, not you.
And because he says it so well, I am just going to quote the most relevant, appropriate, and “Hell Yeah” statement he makes:
People must accept death at “the hour chosen by God,” according to Pope Benedict XVI, leader of the Catholic Church, which is pouring money into the campaign against I-1000.
The hour chosen by God? What does that even mean? Without the intervention of man–and medical science–my mother would have died years earlier. And at the end, even without assisted suicide as an option, my mother had to make her choices. Two hours with the mask off? Six with the mask on? Another two days hooked up to machines? Once things were hopeless, she chose the quickest, if not the easiest, exit. Mask off, two hours. That […]

Google IS God…

I knew there was a reason why I loved using Google:
Google tells votes to “stick it” to Proposition 8
The Proposition 8 that will remove the rights of some to marry those they love

Baseball.. build it, they will come….

One thing I like about living so far away from the city: We have land. And kick ass neighbors with ADD who like to build things. So he uses his own lawn mower and clears the empty lots behind us and builds his and my kids a baseball field. His, mine, and the Mad Dad all playing…

And the couch, it used to belong in our living room. We are such rednecks… hehehe.. it’s now their backstop.
~~Andrea, email me or something and tell me how to delete multiple pictures off of this server. I can see where the photos section is, but instead of removing them one at a time?

Homeschooling Day at the Florida Aquarium

Was actually a nice day too. No crazy homeschoolers, met some new people (yes, ME!), had a good time, ate lunch there (surprisingly good), even corrected the bad grammar on one sign and had the guy laughing at it (”Tattoes IS not working today”–that’s what it said and how they spelled it). Got in free thanks to my membership to MOSI. Not something we’d do all the time like Busch Gardens, but it was a nice, fun, little break.
Off with the pictures!!

See my sleeve? Even my short ass, ON A FREAKING STEP STOOL, still could not reach the sharks (quit laughing Mother)!

This ray was HUGE. And I mean really flipping big!

U-G-L-Y…no make that F-U-G-L-Y!

You can’t see me…. Peek a boo!! (look closely, there’s a white Goby peeking his head out of the sand)

Don’t let this fool you: This turtle was really, really, huge.

We got to see some […]

EPIC FAIL…..

In Sarah Palin’s Acceptance Speech last night. One only needs Google the facts to prove this. From Yahoo News and the Associated Press:
Some examples:
PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere.”
PALIN: “There is much to like […]
